Statewide survey shows "ball tapping" problem widespread

advertisement

It's a disturbing game with devastating consequences, and a new WTHR survey suggests it is rampant in Indiana schools.
"Ball tapping" is the act of intentionally hitting or kicking a male in the genitals. Earlier this month, an Eyewitness News investigation showed the game has become commonplace in some area schools, resulting in serious injuries for students.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

Jake Arend doesn't need survey results to convince him ball tapping is a serious problem.

Classmates began hitting him in the groin when he was in sixth grade and it continued for years.

I've seen one guy in the Army who thought this was a fun game. Oh sure, a lot of guys had pretended to play (not actually hit anyone) or joked about it, but no one actually hit anyone (intentionally). Well one guy actually did make contact, and he did it intentionally.

Going to leave it at he no longer thinks its a fun game.

R. Donald Snyder

Two thumbs up.

If only they limited their targets to others who enjoyed playing.

There is a simple resolution to halt this practice. Whenever a person attempts to tap your balls, you introduce them to the new game,"head knocking! They can ponder the two games as they pick up their teeth.

Teachers and nurses are evidently unable to keep students safe anymore. How long will it be before kids start packing heat to defend against this abuse?

I'm damned glad I grew up in the 1960s, when public school wasn't a place where you had to worry about getting kicked in the nuts or gunned down by your fellow students.

Teachers are "Educators" not babysitters, parents, police, judicial system..they go to college get their teachers license and degree to educate in different subjects... it is the Parents who fail their kids.. not society, not the law, not anything else... If the parents cannot teach their kids right from wrong and install some sort of conscious in their kids, to respect, responsibility.. then it is too late by the time they get to the 4-5th grade.. they are suppose to know right from wrong by the age of 7.. they do what they do, they say what they say from the parents... that Ape-like quality.. Monkey see, monkey do is for real... children are imprinted with social skills from their parents.. If the father yells out the window and swears a lot, and fights with the wife.. the child is destined to do the same...unless you educate them..that is where psychiatrist/psychologist come in.. then they say.. oh the kid has a behavioral problem take these pills for the rest of your life.. he / she has A.D.D. - yeah right.. children are the product of their environment in the home... a good swift kick from time to time never hurt anyone... if you nip it in the butt when it first happens a child will learn not to do anymore.. then it is up to the parents to instruct their kids on the "social graces"....not society.. by the time society gets to them it is then by cops and courts.

"ball tapping" would have lead to fist fighting if I was still in school. You can really mess a person up doing that type of crap.

Just when I think it can't get worse, it does. This reminds me of the hottest new craze, "Kick the Ginger," which means running around literally kicking anyone with ginger-red hair!

I only hope some poor victimized kid doesn't decide to retaliate with unexpected catastrophic results. A few years back in my home town, a known teen-age bully was ragging on the losing pitcher of a semi-finals baseball game. The pitcher, a couple years younger, slender, a head shorter and some 80 pounds lighter, swung at the bully with his bat and (unfortunately) killed him. During the pretrial proceedings, it came out that the younger boy had always been quiet, was an excellent scholar, and had no record of violence, whereas the deceased was a known bully. Some folks who knew the deceased were saying they were not surprised, that he brought it on himself.

Nevertheless, the judge threw the book at the youngster (maximum sentence of 12 yrs in the Youth Authority with hardened street-gang population) rather than sentencing him to rehabilitation counseling and less restrictive confinement.

I pray this "game" can be stopped before someone is killed or seriously hurt.

When I was a kid, 30 years ago, there were kids that would thump each other on the nuts. A kid that comes up off the ground after that Usually has to be dragged off of the kid that started it. For some odd reason, I wasn't targeted for that kind of nonsense.

OK, don't hate on me men, but this sounds like any other "game" men like to play with each other. I feel all the straight men cringing as they read this! lol .... What I mean by that is guys are physical aggressive in their friendships with other guys. Sucker punching, boxing, wrestling, farting on each other, and a zillion other "guy games" that happen all the time. Girls don't get together with their friends and out of no where run in and tackle/wrestle another friend to the ground, followed up with a sucker punch in the gut, THEN laugh about it together!

Ball-tapping, or Ball-ANYTHING, sounds like something bored teenage boys came up with for entertainment. I just cant see grown men pursuing this as entertainment. My ex told me that it only takes "that" one hit, you lose your breath, and the pain is like death. You don't let it happen again, or avoid whatever it was.

Or hit or kicked her between the legs to the point of permanent injury. Just because the gonads of the male are more exposed and more easily damaged, doesn't mean that the female reproductive organs can't be painfully and permanently damaged by the same type of attack. I wonder if anyone would feel the same if their daughter's pubic bone was fractured? Perhaps with the split bone damaging the ovaries or fallopian tubes leaving them sterile? Either way it's sick and wrong. There is no excuse for what these punks did.

No hating. You're just ignorant. At worst it can result in the amputation of a testicle. Can you think of any parts of your female anatomy you'd like not to have amputated?
