This Bearden guy is a real piece of work.

Bearden, who made an unsuccessful run for state senate in the 1970s, has a criminal past that includes three stints in state prison and a 19-month stretch in federal prison, records show.

In 1978, he was sentenced to two years for voluntary manslaughter in the handgun-shooting death of a friend and political ally during a fight. Bearden served less-than-one-year prison terms in the early 1990s on marijuana related charges.

In 1997, he was sent to federal prison for his role in a vote buying conspiracy in Dodge County in what was the largest election fraud prosecution in U.S. history.

Thank you, cuzzenbud, for this post. Sometimes strange events in relatively isolated communities give a microscopic view of events that have macroscopic import.

The pressure that is being placed on lowest echelon of our society with the great sucking force of the marketing industry on one side and the debasing devaluation of labor on the other, it is no wonder that people are reduced to selling the skin of their offspring.

And given the parents, she might as well be emancipated--she might be better off living on her own.

They all deserve to rot in prison.

Did everyone miss this?!

Our friend Darkwood seems to be trying to justify people pimping their daughters when the economy is bad.

I assume Darkwood does not actually believe this, and his comment was made in a rhetorical sense, but it was still made.

There are NO circumstances that justify the selling (or "renting") of ones children.

What's it like to serve just 2 years for taking another humans life?

God. The fact that douchebags like this exist and manage to survive is beyond me.

And he was found with a gun on him. Shocker. Once again, a life long felon (murderer), no problem obtaining a weapon.

The sad part is, that poverty causes bad people to do worse things.

Most of us live in little bubbles where we don't see what happens to those who become homeless, impoverished, etc.

I think this is just a taste of what's coming. Those in poverty no account for around 50 million people in American, and poverty means lawlessness.

I was highlighting that poverty is more likely to bring the worst out in people. And it does.

It's proven true globally over and over again. It's not a coincidence that the poorest nations on Earth are also the ones where terrorism takes hold. No jobs for young men enables them to be taken in by those selling ideas.

If you were raised in Sudan as Islamic, you might believe you are right to drive out the poor Africans. You might think there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Societal convention has a lot to do with what is right and what is wrong. Some people are truly bad, but most are neither bad nor good. Situational circumstance often results in which one comes out.

While it may be more likely... it is not the most contributing factor, even though it is used as an excuse.

the only thing that situations bring out is what kind of person you are... good or bad. If I walked up on a pile of money... taking it is stealing, regardless of how I was raised, or if my parents loved me enough, or (ESPECIALLY) the "econimic condition"..... "bad" people will take it "good" people will not.

tonynmo, I'm sorry if I offended your delicate sensibilities, but assure you that no pun was intended. The sucking force I am speaking of does not relate to the actual sexual favor which I've hardly given thought to at all, but to the seductive nature of the marketing industry which shamelessly reduces all human angst to a desire for some product or other. You may replace sucking force with tractor beam if it pleases you.

However Darkwood, in your own words ".......I've hardly given thought to at all" , indicates you don't give enough thought to the things you say.

Just as your reference to tonymos' comment was out of line. If you want to insure that "no pun was intended", then apologize for it instead of accusing tonymo of having "delicate sensibilities"

Sad, but just another interesting aside to the dizzying array of ambiguity that passes from the pulpit to the pews, as the Preacherman purloins the last pennies from of po' folks pockets as he parlously plants the promise of a purulent and putrid pyromaniacal petrification if they palliate, if they dare partition what must be presented post haste to properly praise HIM...with New buildings...and New Town Cars...and New Glass Cathedrals...with more Town Cars and Benz-ies and Gulf-Streams...

      OR...

give HIM Escalades NOW, and later on....WHEN YOU DIE...YOU WILL RECEIVE...(((A...BRAND...NEW...CAR!!!)))...AND a palatial palace in a perfect and pain-free Paradise that knows no poverty, knows no prejudice, knows no pangs from lack of pabulum. poverty to a surround so much of the "local" (...as in Southern) sensibility when it comes to sex, rape, fornication, consent, and all else in these "practiced-to-perfection" pastoral parables of the proud piety that is programmed into these paragons of the power ....

It will alter most every waking and sleeping moment and make it next to impossible to have close meaningful relationships. I hope that she finds super-loving, patient and loving folks to be with for the next few years.

Darkwood I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment. Many, many people live in desperate situations under a cloud of materialism and would rather DIE than even consider what these sickos did. No excuses and if there is a reason it would be selfish, self-centered narcissism.

Mark my words, there will come a day when the elite few, with their hidden agenda, will use incidents like this to further their war on the poor by passing neutering laws. Much cheaper than education.

There must be something about used car dealers. When I bought my first vehicle, a used Blazer, back in 85, the sales "person" asked me to call him "Fuzzy." Even then I was pretty adept at protecting myself but this guy really gave me the creeps; I made sure I had a male friend with me whenever I had to go over to the dealership.

To me, there isn't anything horrible enough they can do to these three "people." No prison isolation for them...let the general population deal with them.

Its just unbelievable that parents would do something like this. I hope they are put in prison for a very very long time with no contact with their daughter. How disgusting.... 14 y/o helpless girl with a 66 year old nasty pedophile. She will never be the same again. Her innocence was taken, I pray for her.

I think the dad and old man should get sex changes for free and let their "new" boyfriend in prison take care of them.

The mother? She should be stoned in the street by other women.

Hopefully, if they have other children, they will all be removed from the home and out of their legal custody.

I think about stories like this every time I hear a politician decrying 'government meddling' and declaring 'A parent knows best what is good for their child!"

So these parents think what's best for their child is early OJT as a prostitute. Nice.

Eric...I think you are mixing all the messages together.

There is a HUGE difference between "meddling" in an illegal act like child prostitution and arresting or investigating a parent for using normal disciplinary techniques in public like a simple swat on the backside.

Perhaps there is a huge difference between the two poles you present, although child abuse investigations rarely stem from such a light cause. Over the years, there have been tens of thousands of cases of much more significant child abuse than that, in which CPS is hamstrung by laws based upon the 'parent knows better than the government what is best for their child' formula. Often when a child does turn up dead or severely injured, it turns out that CPS has already tried to intervene, but could not do what needed to be done, either due to underfunding or a family court judge who had a prejudice against government 'interference'.

The facts are shown very clearly by this story. Some parents are simply not fit to be parents.

Eric, regretfully, they do. All someone has to do is call the division of children and families. (Whatever it happens to be called where you live...)

I agree, but there is a fine line between the parent knows better than the government and covering up abuse.

Looks and sex can only get you so far. Car payments aren't on that list though.

Maybe one day the death penalty will finally divert this tragic type of behavior. I also agree with the education point brought up above. I say, dive in with both approaches and see how many childrens' souls are saved. I don't mean by God. I mean that a child's soul is destroyed when this happens.
